Hi, my name is Susan Buechel and I was born and raised in Rochester, NY, which is where my husband Ed and I still call home.
For those of you who already know me, you know that I like to have fun!! My interests have always run far and wide. From travelling to exotic places to astronomy to fishing, snorkeling & scuba diving to riding the tallest & fastest rollercoaster to painting, woodworking & making things with my hands ... the list goes on and on. If I'm not actually doing something, chances are that I'm thinking about what I want to do next. The fact that I love to learn new things and that I love jewelry only meant that it was just a matter of time before I combined my affinity for both and a new hobby-turned-business was born! You've patiently listened to me talk about my web site for many months before it actually came into existence and now, finally, I'm proud to say thank you for all the support and "welcome to my web site"!
I am constantly trying to expand my knowledge and learn new techniques for making exciting jewelry. I have no formal training but that only means that I have no pre-conceived notions on how things are "supposed" to be done which means that I am free to let my imagination run wild. I experiment to my hearts content until I figure out what works for me ... which, of course, is half the fun! I have amassed quite a library of books on jewelry techniques for reference, and spend lots of time online researching, but what I have accomplished so far has been done solely by days and nights spent sketching out designs and then experimenting at my ever growing work bench until what was once only a rough sketch becomes something shiny and beautiful that you can hold in your hand, and better yet, wear for all the world to see!
I have always been someone who would rather receive a new tool as a gift than anything else. One year, my husband gave me a drill press for Christmas and within the box for the drill press was a small box containing diamond earrings. Although I loved the earrings, I was ecstatic about getting the drill press that I had wanted! I am lucky enough to have a husband who just looks the other way and laughs when yet another shipment of tools or materials arrives. He is always happy to oblige when I need some extra muscle power to put a new piece of equipment into place or build me a new rack or shelf for something. He never complains when instead of making dinner, I'm sitting at my bench engrossed in a piece I'm working on. I guess it's pizza tonight! And of course I have my beloved dog, Scooby, who we rescued from the pound, who spends countless hours laying at my feet or with her head on my knee while I'm working watching me with those deep soulful eyes. It's nice to have company while you work! And of course I have to thank all the many people, some friends and acquaintances and others who were perfect strangers, who have complimented me on my jewelry therefore spurring on my desire to create more & more!
Let me offer my thanks to you for your interest in me and my creations. I hope you enjoy browsing the site and will check back often to see what's new. I welcome your emails with any comments or suggestions you may have, or feel free to just say hi!
Each new day is a gift not to be wasted . . . remember to find the time every day to learn something new or try something new, laugh lots and have some fun!
